The New Democrat looking out for us.
For most of her professional life, Seema Singh has been looking out for us. An accomplished advocate for New Jersey's ratepayers, families and working professionals, Seema now seeks to represent over two hundred thousand living in Cranbury, Hamilton, Jamesburg, Monroe, Plainsboro, South Brunswick, and West Windsor as State Senator for New Jersey's 14th Legislative District.
As New Jersey's Ratepayer Advocate, Seema pushed utility companies to control their rates and move to clean and renewable energy sources. She educated consumers on energy and water conservation. She stood up to a giant utility merger that would have left consumers out in the cold.
After she was nominated as New Jersey's Public Advocate, Seema helped people by cutting through Trenton's red tape on problems from getting a driver's license to getting a tax refund. She investigated Assisted Living facilities to improve conditions for seniors and the disabled and helped protect domestic abuse victims.
Her skills and devotion to public service has led to many opportunities to serve the needs of others. Seema's expertise has been tapped by the Governor to assist New Jersey's Renewable Energy Task Force, Clean Energy Council, Asian American Commission, Executive Commission on Ethical Standards, and the Governor's Advisory Council on Volunteerism and Community Service.
In her current role as President of the Asian Indian Chamber of Commerce, Seema's many accomplishments include raising funds to reconstruct schools for children destroyed by Tsunami.
Seema's community involvement has boosted the mission of many organizations including the Eagleton Institute, New Jersey Network public television, the College of Computing Sciences at NJIT, Cathedral Health Care Systems, the Delaware Valley Girl Scouts, and Mercer County's Inns of Court and Bar Association. She is also credited as Founding Member of both the Rotary International Club of Plainsboro and the Hindu International Council Against Defamation.
To aid Asian women who are victims of domestic violence, Seema created the Asian Women's Safety Net (AWSN) in collaboration with many Asian organizations and the New Jersey Coalition of Battered Women. She is a member of the Women's Political Caucus and the Center For American Women in Politics.
Seema earned her Juris Doctor at the Seton Hall School of Law, Bachelor of Science with Highest Honors at the Rutgers University School of Business, and Bachelor of Science at Calcutta University.
She's already looked out for us on the toughest challenges we face.
Now we can count on Seema Singh to look out for us in the Senate.
