Looking out for women and seniors As New Jersey’s Public Advocate nominee, Seema launched an investigation into Assisted Living facilities that led to improved conditions for seniors and the disabled.Seema led an effort to stop domestic violence and establish a system where culturally sensitive volunteers could be added to assist domestic violence victims in Asian American communities. Nothing should stand in the way of a woman’s right to choose. That’s why Seema supports the bill requiring pharmacists to fill legal prescriptions regardless of their religious or moral beliefs. Looking out for Working Families As New Jersey’s Ratepayer Advocate, Seema argued against rate hikes proposed by public utilities.As New Jersey’s Acting Public Advocate, Seema helped thousands of families navigate the bureaucratic maze of red tape in Trenton. She helped people with problems from getting a driver’s license to getting a tax refund. Seema opposed a giant utility merger that would have caused rate hikes. Her efforts saved skilled jobs that would have been lost in the merger. Property tax relief: Seema supports property tax rebates to all homeowners and tenants making $200,000 or less. Relief for working families: Paid family leave to care for loved ones Prevailing wages and working wages for all workers Expanded health insurance coverage Pension protection and portability Looking out for a healthier New Jersey Smoking Ban: Seema supports a ban on smoking in restaurants and casinos.Mental Health Parity: Seema supports providing insurance for mental health conditions. Stem Cell Research: Seema supports New Jersey’s investments to become an international leader in stem cell research and find new cures for diseases like Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, childhood Diabetes and more. Looking out for our children Seema supports a revised school aid formula to increase funding to suburban school districts. Increased state and federal funding for special needs children. Create tax incentives for businesses that provide childcare for working parents. Fight gang violence by increasing the number of after school and community programs to give our young people safe alternatives to gangs.
